Hill Lutheran Church records show Henry died in 1810 at 50 years 6 months less 11 days.  Anna Christina IMBODEN and Heinrich PETERS had the following children:

                                                                i. HENRY3 PETERS was born about 1777 in Lebanon Co, PA ?.10

The following information came from Kathleen McGrady.  "John and his wife moved to Augusta County, Virginia in 1795 and bought a farm on Christians Creek on which was one of the Indian forts of the county called Christians Fort."

The following information came from Thomas G. Hobbs, a descendent of the Virginia Imbodens, who did a lot of research on the Imboden family.  "Chancery suit: N.S. 183, Bill 1820, Imboden vs. Imboden.  The first bill of complaint filed 14 June 1820 by Mary Imboden, daughter of Jacob Imboden, deceased, (son of Johannes Imboden) thorium her guardian George Frenger and James Christian, who had acquired an interest in the land by purchase.  In the answer of Catharine Imboden to the bill of complaint, she states that John Imboden died on April 6, 1801, leaving a widow and 11 children, the eldest of whom was 15 and the youngest, Sarah, a "sucking infant".  The bill involved the right of Mary to 4 1/11th shares of the land (84.5 acres), through purchase made by her father, Jacob, of the other heirs.  These are of record in deed books of Augusta County.  The bill gives the list of heirs but not ages.  The chancery records also show that in 1820, David was already gone from Virginia. Catherine retained her portion as a dower.  The children Samuel and Eleanor were twins."

John is buried in a Lutheran Church Cemetery at Christian Creek and his wife Catherine is buried in a Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Waynesburo, Virginia near her son Jacob.

Johannes IMBODEN and Catherine FERNSLER were married on Jun 3, 1783 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  Catherine FERNSLER2 was born Aug 27, 1763 in Lebanon Co, PA.  This birth date came from the Fernsler family website.  She was listed as the head in the census in 1810 taken in Augusta Co, VA.  She was listed as the head in the census in 1830 taken in Augusta Co, VA.  She died after 1830 in Augusta Co, VA.  Catherine is shown in the 1830 census age 70 years old.  She is not shown in the 1840 census.  Research found Catherine's maiden name also spelled Faunceler which was probably a phonetically spelling.  Kathleen McGrady sent the following.  "In the "Imboden Genealogy" copied by T.B. Teassels on March 5, 1919, Catherine's maiden name was shown as Williams."  Johannes IMBODEN and Catherine FERNSLER had the following children:

14 i. JOHN3 was born April 10, 1784

Carroll, died in 1877.  This is the only Sarah in this family that will fit the dates.  It is assumed her first husband, David Ruth died and she remarried.

Sarah E. IMBODEN and David RUTH were married on May 22, 1820 in Augusta Co, VA.3  David RUTH was born about 1800 in an unknown location.  This birth date is estimated from his wife's birth date.

5. JOHN ADAM2 IMBODEN (Johannes Schweickert1) was born on Oct 12, 1765 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  He was christened on Nov 10, 1765 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  He died on Feb 25, 1825 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1

John Adam and Maria had 15 children most of whom died between 1825 and 1830 of consumption.  It should be noted that a lot of people died about this time of typhoid fever.

John Adam IMBODEN and Maria SIEGCHRIST were married about 1788 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  "Maria SIEGCHRIST was born on Oct 17, 1768 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She died on Sep 8, 1838 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  John Adam IMBODEN and Maria SIEGCHRIST had the following children:

This information was furnished by Jack M. Barge from Green county records. He came from Lebanon county PA to Wayne county OH in 1831.  They spoke German/Dutch.  They lived in Plain twp. section 9, nw corner until 1850.  They sold it for $4500.00 and moved to Richland twp. Green county IN.  The census taker listed them illiterate (because he could not understand them).

29 viii. JOHN HENRY was born September 4, 1801

xi. GEORGE was born on Oct 6, 1806 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  He was christened in Oct  1806 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  I was unable to locate George in any census records which tends to indicate he may have died before the 1850 census.

30 xii. SARA was born January 3, 1808.

xiii. FREDERICK (1810) was born on Jan 6, 1810 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  He was christened in Feb  1810 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  Fredrick was not found in any census records.  He may have died before the 1810 census was taken.

8. JOHN GEORGE2 IMBODEN (Johannes Schweickert1) was born on Jan 25, 1772 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  He was christened on Feb 22, 1772 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  He was listed as the head in the census on Sep 18, 1850 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.  He died on Jul 28, 1851 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1

George was enumerated with a blacksmith named Mathew Steward in the 1850 census.
This was sent to me by Dolly Martin - "A document - Book L page 390 - Lebanon county courthouse records the dispersal of George Imboden's property after his death. It has a date of March 30, 1852. The land (25 acres) had originally belonged to Johan Sweigart and passed to George. However when it was surveyed, it turned out to be 27 acres and 70 perches. It is located on the Middle/High School campus today. Daughter Rebecca was married to Jacob German/Garman and they purchased the property from the other siblings. The property was divided into 6 shares, one for each of the 5 living children and 1 for the minor son of Henry, because Henry "is already dead." The children are as follows:

Anna Maria married to George Selders
         John Imboden and wife Sophia
         Elizabeth married to Adam Shepler
         Mary married to Cyrus Carmony

Unfortunately the name of the minor son of Henry isn't given."

John George IMBODEN and Elizabeth FOLTZ were married on Aug 23, 1795 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  Elizabeth FOLTZ was born on Jun 8, 1776 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She died on Sep 16, 1843 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  John George IMBODEN and Elizabeth FOLTZ had the following children:

i. ANNA MARIA3  was born on May 3, 1796 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She was christened on Jul 17, 1796 in Hill Lutheran Church.1

Some of the dates for Anna in the Hill Church records are not consistent.  One record shows she was born on May 30 while another shows May 3.  All of the records indicate she was born in 1795 but considering her parents were married August 1795 and her christening July 1796, I believe she was born in 1796, not 1795 as shown.  Births out of wedlock were extremely rare at this point in time.

Anna Maria IMBODEN and George SELDERS were married about 1815 in an unknown location.19  George SELDERS was born about 1795 in an unknown location.

33 ii. HENRICH was born April 2, 1803

iii. JOHN JACOB (JACOB) was born on Apr 2, 1803 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.6  He was listed as the head in the census on Sep 14, 1850 taken in Tuscarawas, Stark Co., OH.  He died on Jan 21, 1873 in Lebanon Co, PA.6

Jacob was shown as a farmer in the 1850 census with a real estate value of $4,000.  A cousin Philip, son of John Philip Imboden, is also enumerated in this household.
Some records I found show the name, Jacob, and others the name, John, but both are born on the same date and the same father, John George, shown only as George.  I appears they did not like the common name, John.
The 1850 census shows Jacob's wife's name as Lydia but his fathers dispersal document shows the name, Sophia.  It is possible his first wife died between 1850 and 1851..

Jacob IMBODEN and Lydia (IMBODEN) were married about 1827 in Lebanon Co, PA.14  Lydia (IMBODEN) was born about 1811 in Lebanon Co, PA.14  She was listed as a household member in the census on Sep 14, 1850 taken in Tuscarawas, Stark Co., OH.

iv. ELIZABETH was born on Oct 9, 1805 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She was christened on Dec 7, 1805 in Hill Lutheran Church.1

This would be the last home of John Phillip.  Like his father,
he probably lived in much smaller log or wooden homes
before this home was built.

Picture by Helen Griffith about 1985.

Philip died when he fell from a horse he was attempting to break. The 1850 census shows his wife Elizabeth, daughter Elezabeth and a Peggy living here with their son George.  I believe Peggy to be a younger sister of George.  In 1860 Elizabeth was living with her oldest daughter Elenor and her husband and is shown in the census as being blind.

Egle's 1896 Notes and Queries on page 14 makes reference to John Philip b. Mar. 26, 1774; d. May 25, 1849; his wife Elizabeth, b. in 1800 d. in 1887.  It appears Philip was married twice.  Some of his children were born before this wife was.  If the date born is adjusted to a normal age at time of marriage, she would have lived to be 110 years old.

John Philip IMBODEN and Elizabeth MULLER were married about 1794 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  Elizabeth MULLER (daughter of Rudolph MULLER and Susannah (MULLER)) was born on Oct 6, 1774 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1,14  She was listed as a household member in the census on Sep 18, 1850 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.  She was listed as a household member in the census on Aug 23, 1860 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.  She died on Mar 1, 1893 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.20

Information from Dolly Martin, who was doing research on the property she and her husband now own in PA, which appears to have once belonged to Johannes Schweickert Imboden, found cemetery records for Elizabeth Miller Imboden which shows she was born October 6, 1774.  I have changed the approximate birth date of 1775 to show this date.  Muller would probably be a German spelling while Miller seems to be more of a English spelling.  The spelling of names in many records do often get changed so ether could be correct.

John Philip IMBODEN and Elizabeth MULLER had the following children:

i. ELENORA3  was born on Apr 1, 1797 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She was christened on Apr 7, 1797 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  She was listed as a household member in the census on Aug 23, 1860 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.

Elenora IMBODEN and Abraham CARMINE were married on Oct 22, 1815 in Lebanon Co, PA.21  xe "CARMINE:Abraham (b. 1794)"Abraham CARMINE was born about 1794 in an unknown location.41  He was listed as the head in the census on Aug 23, 1860 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.

Abraham's names is shown as Philip Carmany in the 1860 census under Elizabeth Imboden.  She was living with Philip and Elenor at the time.

39 ii. PHILIP was born July 1799

40 iii. SOLOMON was born October 19, 1801

iv. ELIZABETH was born on Oct 22, 1803 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  She was christened in Nov  1803 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  She was listed as a household member in the census on Sep 18, 1850 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.  Elizabeth was living with her brother George in the 1850 census.  It is possible her husband, John, may have died before this date.

Elizabeth IMBODEN and John HERSHY were married on Apr 2, 1827 in Lebanon Co, PA.22  John HERSHY was born about 1802 in an unknown location.

John is shown as being the son of Mathias Hershy of Londonderry Twp.

v. JACOB was born on Nov 2, 1805 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.1  He was christened on Jan 1, 1806 in Hill Lutheran Church.1  Jacob must have died before 1850.

42 vi. SAMUEL (1807) was born December 1807

43 vii. WILHELM (William R.)  was born March 24, 1809.

44 viii. DANIEL was born June 21, 1811

45 ix. JOHN was born March 8, 1813

46 x. GEORGE (1814) was born November 8, 1814

xi. PEGGY was born about 1817 in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.14  She was listed as a household member in the census on Sep 18, 1850 taken in S. Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.

11. FREDRICK2 IMBODEN (Johannes Schweickert1) was born about 1778 in Annville, Lebanon Co, PA.14  He was listed as the head in the census in 1810 taken in Augusta Co, VA.  He died on May 24, 1835 in Union Co, KY.5  He was buried about May 27, 1835 in Webster Co, KY.5

Fredrick, along with two of his brothers, John and Henry, moved to Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia in 1795.  Records show his buying and selling of much land in that county and  that he was evidently very prosperous for a number of years.  He owned a mill in Waynesboro, VA and much farm land.  He lost his wealth in the recession after the War of 1812 and moved his family to Trade Water, Union Co, KY.  The family continued to eat out of silver plates after they moved to KY, according to a story told by Dixie Towery, a descendant of Frederick Imboden.  His tombstone, along with that of his son, Benjamin, was found on May 24, 1992 by James Withers of Providence, KY.  It was across the road from the farm of Sarah Catherine Imboden Withers, and her husband, Francis Gooch Withers.  It was in a remote place with no road access, but was documented and gives the year of birth and death of both men.  (Helen Wither Griffith)

The following is taken from an article on the Imboden family in the Staunton Spectator, Staunton Virginia, dated September 3, 1878. While much of this article does not bear up to the test of facts, this part is included on Frederick for what it's worth.  The mill mentioned in the article did exist.  I found it by name in an article on the old mills in Augusta County in an Augusta Historical Bulletin but it did not list previous owners of this mill.

"Frederick became the owner of the Waynesboro Mill near the beginning of the century.  One Abram Eversole, who owned the first mill, a chopping mill, that stood directly across the trace from the present one, built this one between 1795 and 1800, and took in one Rhodes, a native of Albermarle or Nelson, as a partner.   They sold it to Frederick Imboden soon after he settled there.  He was a man of great energy of character, and besides carrying on the mill, layed off some of his land near the railroad and depot into loots.  This was the third portion of the town and the youngest in point of age.  That portion north of the hill, and of which Maj. Willson's tavern, the first public house built, it is supposed between Staunton and Rockfish Gap, was the center.  The chimney of brick marks the site.  This is the first part, but who laid it off is unknown. The second was the larger and now most densely built part, layed off by Samuel Estill and Jean, his wife, about 1787.  Fredrick was largely engaged as a dealer of cattle, and by energy and industry acquired large property.  Tis said of him that to save his credit and to meet the payment of a note of $4000 which fell due on a particular day, he rode from the city of Richmond to Waynesboro in one day.  The great pecuniary crash, incident to the War of 1812, carried him under. He had, besides a mortgage of $7000 given to the late James Bell, executed one for perhaps $15,000 to Ellis and Allen of Richmond.  It is remembered that at the date of the sale of the mill, about 1816, the competition between Bell and the firm of Ellis and Allen was so spirited that no bid under $500 was made, and the price it brought, $35,000, was soon attained by James Bell, and a purchase his family always regarded as unfortunate.  About this date, Frederick removed, in great poverty, to the state of Kentucky, with his wife and two children, Jacob and John, and settled in the wilderness, fourteen miles from any habitation, at the Falls of Green River.  Here, under the laws of Kentucky, he got 640 acres of land for himself and 320 acres for each of his boys.  He and his wife soon died from hardships and the privations of a wilderness home.  The sons grew up, and by some means obtained fair educations, and their land made them rich.  John was in the Kentucky Senate for several years, and a great friend of Mr. Clay's.  He came to Virginia, on a short visit to his relatives, just after Mr. Clay's defeat for the Presidency, and took it very hard.  He was then in middle life".

From research by T. G. Hobbs, he wrote the following.  There are many deeds in the name of Frederick Imboden in Augusta County, both grantee and grantor, also deeds of trust.  Besides the deeds, the most family information comes from a chancery suit instituted by his widow, Catherine, to obtain her dower right to a mill and distillery in Augusta County.  The dates range from 1802 to 1827.  The first deed which refers to him as "late of Augusta County", is found in Deed Book 47, page 51, 1 April 1821.  The chancery suit, N.S. 195, Imboden vs. Bell tells through depositions when he went to Kentucky, where, and when he died, as well as who his children were.  Depositions were made in Hopkins County, Kentucky, 27 April 1838 by the following former Augusta County residents: James Ramsey, Alexander Ramsey, Thomas Givens.  Depositions were also made by two men who knew him will in Union County, Kentucky: Robert Martin and Nathaniel B. Martin.  They had known him from 1821 until he died in May 1835.  They also gave the names of his wife and children who were all still living in 1838.  The agent for his mother in this matter was the son, John.  The depositions which were mailed from Kentucky to Virginia came from Providence, Kentucky.  James Ramsey stated that Frederick Imboden lived at Montezuma, Kentucky at the time of his death.

Fredrick IMBODEN and Katherine (IMBODEN) were married about 1795 in Lebanon Co, PA.5  Katherine (IMBODEN) was born about 1767 in Lebanon Co, PA.5  She died about 1852 in Union Co, KY.5  Fredrick IMBODEN and Katherine (IMBODEN) had the following children:

50 iv. FREDERICK was born about 1816

v. BENJAMIN was born about 1822 in Union Co, KY.5  He died in Jan  1871 in Webster Co, KY.5

The birth and death dates of Benjamin Imboden and his father, Fredrick, were found May 24, 1991 on tombstones on a farm near what at one time was the village of Montezuma, KY in a remote spot across the highway from the farm where Sarah Catherine Imboden Withers and her husband lived and raised a large family.  The date of his finding was exactly 157 years since the death of Frederick Imboden, the pioneer who moved from Annville Twsp, PA when a young man to Waynesboro, VA and in 1820 to KY with his family.  (Helen Griffith)

Benjamin IMBODEN and Lourissa Ann CURRY were married about 1862 in Union Co, KY.5  Lourissa Ann CURRY was born on Dec 6, 1840 in Union Co, KY.5  She died on Mar 5, 1929 in Webster Co, KY.5
